A rock and roll festival experience for people of all ages and abilities.
Clients from Chase Park Neuro Centre help plan, promote and participate in the festival as part of their therapy and social programmes. Clients and staff worked along with professional bodies such UKs leading Music Development Agency Generator, the Art’s Council England and other 3rd sector partners to produce a high calibre event with a stellar line up of disabled artists and emerging north east talent.
The whole idea behind the event is to be inclusive for everyone regardless of ability. Factors such as remote locations, high expense, access and poor facilities can often mean many mainstream outdoor music festivals can often exclude people with disabilities. Chase Park Music Festival also aims to helping break down cultural barriers and stereotypes often associated with people with disabilities by engaging with the whole community. The festival uses music as the foundation to get people from all walks of life together to enjoy a fun-packed carnival atmosphere.
As part of their rehabilitation programmes, our clients are actively involved in the whole process of producing the event, from inputting to the design and distribution of promotional materials to recording podcasts in the run up to the event for example. On the day clients man information stalls, sell t shirts, bandanas and jewellery as well as just enjoying the whole event. The festival provides Chase Park Neuro Centre clients with the opportunity to be involved in innovative activities which can assist with their engagement in therapy programmes, as well as the chance to enjoy a feel good community event which can help improve their sense of wellbeing.
The festival team collaborate with a number of charities which has several benefits for the organisations involved. By having a presence on the day of the event organisations such Parkinson’s UK, The North East Motor Neurone Disease Association, Headway Gateshead and South Tyneside, The Child Brain Injury Trust and The MS Society are able to get their message out to attendees in a wholly social environment. The organisations also help support their own client’s access a fun event where barriers to disability are clearly blown away .
