Overview
Multiple sclerosis is a disease which affects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. In Multiple Sclerosis the Myelin coating around nerve fibres is damaged, this disrupts the flow of nerve signals, causing a range of symptoms.
Potential Effects of multiple sclerosis (not an exhaustive list)
- Vision problems.
- Balance problems and dizziness.
- Ataxia.

Around 80% of people with MS have what is known as ‘relapsing remitting MS’ . This means that at times, symptoms can almost disappear or reduce significantly for an indefinite period. These remissions are often followed by a ‘flare up’ where symptoms will return for a period of weeks or months. At these times people with MS may require support to manage their condition.
