Keiro began in 1987 as Whickham Villa, a single care home for older people. Over time the business expanded and developed a new service to cater for the needs of younger people with disabilities. Due to the demand for quality rehabilitation services in the region, the company founded a rehabilitation services and health club in 2007, winning the prestigious Pinders award for Best New Care Development.
The company changed to enable it to grow and expand; Whickham Villa LLP became a new limited company ‘Keiro Limited’. Keiro is the Japanese word for ‘Pathway’ and /or ‘Journey’. Our vision for the company is to provide an integrated ‘Pathway’ of support and rehabilitation services from hospital to home to help support our clients ‘Journey’ towards independence.
Keiro’s CQC registered care homes with nursing are more akin to a luxury hotel than a care home or hospital; we are developed to an unprecedented high standard. Unlike traditional care environments, facilities such as health clubs and cafés place Keiro services at the very heart of the local community, providing benefits to our clients, their families and the wider public. Many partnerships have been established with community groups and organisations, statutory services and other providers maximising the social opportunities and outcomes for our clients.
In recent years our company has been working hard to extend the scope of our work and bring the opportunities afforded by rehabilitation and specialist care to people in other areas of the United Kingdom. The first stage of this process has been the development of an exciting new facility in Middlesbrough ‘The Gateway’. Also, a CQC registered care home with nursing, the facility has brought about a host of exciting new opportunities for people with neurological conditions living in the Tees Valley and beyond.
