The Story of The Gateway
Find out more about how Keiro developed the innovative new service: The Gateway
The Story of The Gateway
In November 2011 Keiro announced the development of an innovative new service in Middlesbrough’s Middlehaven district to provide an integrated pathway of rehabilitation services to people with long term neurological conditions in the Tees valley and beyond.
The Gateway was conceived to provide a range of new services and facilities for people with neurological conditions at all stages of their individual pathways, from expert in-house rehabilitation and specialist housing to health and wellbeing facilities for the whole community.
Chase Park Neuro Centre had already shown that close working with partners in health and social care, social housing and the third sector could provide better outcomes for clients. The Gateway built upon these insights, designed around the the concept of a truly integrated client pathway.
The underpinning principals of The Gateway...
- To provide the right support, targeted at the right time. Supporting the individual at all stages of their pathway.
- To provide opportunities for clients to meet their own personal outcomes, saving resources as they gain greater independence.
- Partnerships: working together with a range of stakeholders to support people holistically and build community capacity
- Long term independence pathways: housing and support at home for better outcomes and better value in the long term
- Helping people with long term conditions to stay healthy and live independently
In January 2014 this exciting new concept became a reality providing flexible, support along each individual’s unique pathway to independence. This flexibility is facilitated by offering a number of rehabilitation, specialist care, support and housing options, targeting the right support when the client needs it, avoiding delays in accessing services and linking in with partners who will work with us to deliver holistic support.
Building The Gateway...
Work on The Gateway build started in November 2012 after receiving planning permission earler that year. Keiro chronicled the building process with regula updates, providing photographs and a timelapse video of the build process (shown below).
