Partners & Stakeholders

Keiro has a long history of partnership working with a range of statutory and non-statutory external agencies

Working in collaboration with partners is a core Keiro value

In partnership we aim to deliver high quality services to our clients. Working closely with Statutory Services has been always been essential as we work with partnership the NHS and Local Authority Services on every individual client’s case, particularly with regard to client admissions and discharges. We have strong working relationships with Walkergate Park Hospital, both the Spinal and Neuro units at James Cook University Hospital, Northumberland Head Injuries Service, Gateshead Brain Injury Team and Adult Physical Disability Team, Cumbria’s Brain Injury Team, an array of other specialist NHS and Local Authority teams from within and beyond the local SHA area, along with local General Practitioners and Nurse Assessors. We also work closely with local safeguarding teams and a member of our staff is now qualified and approved to deliver Safeguarding Alerter training to Gateshead Council safeguarding standards, both in house and to a number of external organisations in Gateshead.

We continue to work closely with a range of local and national community and third sector organisations, many of whom regularly access our facilities. These partner organisations include: Headway Gateshead, Headway Newcastle and North Tyneside, Durham Children’s Disability Network, TVDNA (Tees Valley and Durham Neurological Alliance), Parkinson’s Disease Society, Huntingdon’s Disease Association, MS Society (for whom we provide regular holistic therapy), North East MND Trust (Weekly support group held at in Chase Park Healthclub), Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, Momentum (Back to work based placements for clients with ABI), CBIT (Children’s Brain Injury Trust), Calvert Trust (Client holidays), Percy Headley Foundation (Back to work Employability Project for clients with complex needs and Health Club memberships as part of young adult’s personal development curriculum) and Gateshead Access Panel.

We are active and engaged members of the Northern Acquired Brain Injury Forum (NABIF), The Northern Neurological Alliance (NNA) The North of Tyne (NoT), South of Tyne (SoT) and Durham Neurological Forums, Gateshead Physical Disability & Sensory Impairment (PDSI) Partnership. Our chief executive Boda Gallon is treasurer /trustee of TVDNY and Vice Chair of the South of Tyne Neuro Forum. Our Business Development Director Alistair McDonald is Chair of Gateshead & South Tyneside Headway, The Evidence Based Practice Sub Group of the North East Neuroscience Network and the Tees Neuro Forum.

In addition to the above links we have strong working partnerships with a range of specialist domiciliary support providers of specialist community nursing, cognitive and therapy support packages.

Many of our clients have accessed support from other providers such as day services while residing with us. On these occasions we ensure that we maintain strong open lines of communication and coordinate our services effectively. We have often worked with providers of home care who have begun working with our clients whilst still resident (sometimes supported by whole teams) to ensure that the transition to living in the community is as smooth as possible.

INPA

Keiro is now one of 18 founder members of a new national alliance that aims to promote awareness of the benefits of neurorehabilitation. The aims of INPA are to establish standards for neurorehabilitation, political representation and lobbying and research.

The Independent Neurorehabilitation Providers Alliance (INPA) is a new and dynamic group established to ensure neurorehabilitation is delivered by organisations employing appropriately trained and experienced staff in environments conducive to the rehabilitation process. The founder members come from a variety of providers all with the common aim of providing excellence in neurorehabilitation.

Founder members of INPA are going through a process of self-validation over the next 12 months, after which new members can apply to join the alliance. Members are currently involved in raising awareness of the alliance, why we are here and what we will do showing a presence at conferences across the country and publish information about our work.

Work is also underway to conduct a systematic review of outcome measures that the provider services are currently using, identifying areas for development.

The members of INPA agree to be bound by a statement of standards. This and other information about INPA can be found on the INPA website at www.in-pa.org

Assistive Technology Partners

Telecare and assistive technology have long been associated with cost savings within health and social care, often helping people to stay independent at home by reducing their dependence on services and minimising the requirement for physical care.

At Keiro we work closely with providers and suppliers of specialist equipment and assistive technologies to provide the equipment required to minimise the effects of disability and promote an individual’s independence.

Telecare solutions identified for our clients use post-discharge have also been used during rehabilitation placements, so that clients can adapt to them prior to discharge. These technologies have been utilised by clients who have resided in our two step-forward apartments in preparation for their return to independent living.

We consider telecare and assistive technologies to be a central component of both our current provision and our new developments, promoting independence and reducing the cost of care and support.
